I'm kind of a pro

That's right, a professional baby-carrier.  I went to Disneyland yesterday evening to meet up with my good friend Kristen and her family.  They were enjoying a day in the park, but I just took a quick jaunt over after work to hang out and watch her sisters perform in a Battle of the Bands contest at House of Blues.  Her sisters got second place and absolutely rocked!  Before the show, though, we had such a great time walking around with little Kairi, taking her on It's A Small World and eating some tasty Disneyland treats.  I just love Disneyland so much.  Even though I was just there for a few hours I had such a good time and left feeling all giddy.  I guess it really is the happiest place on Earth.  And luckily I get to go back on Friday since I'm such an elite annual pass holder!

Rstr: 01 - Corrective Lenses

That's now what my drivers' license will say on it.  One restriction for corrective lenses.  Boo!  I knew that my eyesight was getting slightly worse, but I still just don't consider myself a person that needs glasses.  But I guess I've got to face up to the cold, hard facts now.  I know that tons of people have to wear glasses/contacts and it's not a big deal at all.  And in time it won't feel like a big deal at all to me, but it just seems like I have to go through a bit of an identity change now.

I'm also extremely stubborn and I just still feel like I don't really need them.  I mean, at the DMV this morning I could see the eye chart just fine with both eyes.  I could even see it just fine with my right eye, but my left eye just conked out on me.  As soon as I covered up that right eye and the left eye had to fend for himself, I knew I was doomed.  The chart became a total blur, the mean lady made me put on my glasses to retake the eye test and told me that she had to include "corrective lenses" on my license from now on.  But, honestly, when am I ever going to drive with one eye covered?!  I just don't get it.  Well, I guess that's enough griping for one day.  I'm now officially Jessica with bad eyesight - onto a life of glasses/contacts for me.

Living Out Of My Car

As most of you know, my life is in a bit of limbo at the moment.  I'm currently living at my dad's house on the weekends and down in Fountain Valley during the week with my wonderful friend Beckie's parents.  I am so blessed that two separate families are willing to put up with me and let me stay with them, but it does make things a bit difficult.  As a consequence of moving back and forth every few days, I keep a LOT of stuff in my car.  I didn't realize quite how much I really live out of my car until today when I switched cars with my Dad.  And when I say switched cars with my Dad, I really mean that he was nice enough to take my car in to get an oil change and let me drive his to work for the day.  On the way to work I realized that I forgot my keycard for work in my car so I couldn't get in and out of the parking lot easily - not a biggie.  During the day I realized that I forgot my flip flops in my other car that I wear into/out of spinning class.  Still, not a huge deal.  Then, as I was driving to spinning class after work I realized that I completely forgot all of my work-out clothes at home.  I usually keep all my spinning supplies in my car, but had taken them out, planned ahead and packed them up the night before.  And then I left the house without them!  I felt like such a dummy!  Oh well.  

In other news, I've still been keeping very busy.  I was up in San Jose this past weekend for my dear friend Lindsay's brother's wedding, I went to my first Dodgers game of the season on Monday night, and I'm off tomorrow for Davis for my cousin's graduation.  Here are some pics from my last few adventures:

May's Done Already?!

I'm not really sure where the time is going.  Drew will be back before I know it if the months keep flying by this quickly.  I think the trick is to stay really, really busy.  And that's certainly what I'm trying to do!  There's just so much wonderful stuff going on that I don't want to miss out on while I'm in the area.  So I'm trying to take advantage of it all.

Last week my dear friend from college, Sarah, graduated from Cal State Northridge with her Masters in Special Education.  I was lucky enough to be able to go to the graduation and cheer her on with her wonderful family.  I am so proud of her and know that she will touch so many little lives in such a special way.  Congrats, Sarah!

This past Memorial Day weekend I went up to the Oakland area to visit Drew's family.  I am lucky to have such great in-laws and so glad that they are so welcoming of me.  I got to enjoy the long weekend with his mom, dad & sister.  We had some delicious barbecues, played lots of games, went to an A's game, saw a movie, visited with friends, went shopping, and just enjoyed being altogether.  It was such a nice, relaxing weekend.  I really wished it didn't have to end!  And I really wish that every weekend was a three-day weekend.  Things would just be so much better that way.  I guess they could be worse, though, because Drew isn't getting any weekends over there in Afghanistan.  He works seven days a week, every single week.  Poor guy!

This past weekend my gorgeous friend, Jennifer, got married to the man of her dreams.  And I could not be happier for them!  It was an absolutely perfect weekend and she was even more stunning than I could have imagined.  The wedding was beautiful and the reception was a huge success.  It was such a fun party and we all danced the night away! Those lucky ducks are now in Fiji enjoying each other and the beauty of the tropics.  Here are some highlights from the weekend...sadly, I didn't capture Jonathan in any of the pictures.  But, I promise, he does exist!

Jake the Snake

Oh man!  I have been so behind on my blogging this month.  I don't know where May has gone!  I think that I've just been up to so much fun stuff that the days are just flying by.

My little brother, Jake, came home from the 6-13 for a visit from North Carolina.  Dad & I really miss him and his wife.  It's sad having them all the way over on the other coast.  But, thankfully we have airplanes and he was able to make the journey over to the West Coast.  We had a great time brunching with his in-laws (we consider them family too!) in Laguna Beach, hiking in Eaton Canyon, eating at all of Jake's favorite California restaurants, playing tons of games, watching lots of NBA playoff games and all being together to celebrate Grandma and our mom on Mother's Day.  It was such a wonderful time and we were sad to see him go.  But he had to get back to the East Coast to start his high-powered summer associate job in Washington, D.C.  I'm so proud of my little brother and in total awe of the man he has become.  I look up to him!  Love you lots, Jake.

Two years ago today my mom went home.  I found this poem in her desk and know she believed it with every ounce of her being.  Mom, you're home!  I still miss her everyday, but find such joy in knowing that she is enjoying eternity in Heaven.  This poem truly gives me so much hope - thanks for the reminder, Mom.  I love you.
